Leadership York

Future Leaders of York

Future Leaders of York, a program for high school sophomores and juniors, encourages life-long responsible community participation.  Through interaction and problem solving with peer and community leaders, students learn about current issues, community resources, and how they can influence the future of York County.  In addition to a weekend retreat and six one-day sessions, the students plan a community service project and are matched with an established community leader as a mentor.

Students are selected by their respective school districts in late Spring for participation the following school year, and represent most public and private high schools in York County.  When space is available, youth-centered nonprofit agencies are also encouraged to submit applicants.  Sponsoring organizations are encouraged to look beyond typical school leadership criteria when selecting participants in order to identify previously untapped leadership potential.

Participating students are charged a modest tuition of $225, which in some cases is covered by the sponsoring organization.  This fee does not, however, cover the true cost of the program, and Leadership York relies on the generosity of York County's business and philanthropic community in order to offer this training in community involvement to our youth.

Students interested in becoming a Future Leader of York should apply through their high school guidance office.  Questions about the program can be directed to Patricia  Hogg, Program Coordinator.
